ORRO Troubleshooting Guide
Having an issue with your ORRO? Most problems have a quick fix below. If you don't see your issue, or a fix doesn't work, reach out to us directly — details at the bottom of this page.
Quick Fixes to Try First
Before anything else, these solve the majority of issues:
• Unplug ORRO, wait 10 seconds, and plug it back in.
• Confirm it's plugged directly into a wall outlet — not a power strip, surge protector, or an outlet controlled by a wall light switch that may be switched off.
• Try a different outlet to rule out a dead outlet.
• Make sure the front disc is fully closed. ORRO won't operate correctly if the disc is left open or isn't latched.
ORRO Won't Turn On
• Confirm the outlet has power by testing it with another device (like a phone charger).
• Confirm the outlet isn't controlled by a wall switch that's currently off.
• Make sure the front disc is fully closed.
• Try a different outlet.
If ORRO still won't light up after trying another outlet, this likely points to a defective unit. Contact us — this is covered under your 1-year limited warranty.
ORRO Doesn't Seem to Be Catching Insects
• Give it time. ORRO works continuously, but how quickly you'll notice results depends on the size of the fruit fly population in your space.
• Check placement. ORRO works best placed near where fruit flies actually gather — kitchen counters, trash bins, fruit bowls, or recycling areas — rather than across the room from the problem area.
• Check airflow. Open windows, fans, and HVAC vents near ORRO can pull insects away from the device and reduce catch rate. Try a spot with less direct airflow if possible.
• Check the cartridge. A cartridge that's been in place for a while or is visibly full won't catch much more — see the Cartridge section below for how to swap it.
• Confirm the light is on. If ORRO isn't lit at all, see “ORRO Won't Turn On” above.
Sleep Mode
To turn Sleep Mode on: tap the button once. The light will flash twice to confirm, then shift to a soft warm glow. Sleep Mode runs for 8 hours, then automatically returns to full operation — you only need to set it once.
To turn Sleep Mode off early: tap the button once while Sleep Mode is active. ORRO returns to full operation.
To change your bedtime (reset the 8-hour countdown to start from a new time): double-tap the button while Sleep Mode is already active. This restarts the timer from that moment without switching back to full brightness first — no need to turn Sleep Mode off and back on.
Cartridge & Refills
How to remove a cartridge: Open the front disc fully, then use the pull-tab at the top of the cartridge to slide it out. You won't need to touch the adhesive or any trapped insects.
How to insert a new cartridge: Slide the replacement cartridge into the guide rails on the back shell until it sits flush.
When to replace: Once the cartridge is visibly full, or it's stopped catching new insects — there's no fixed schedule, since it depends on your household.
Cartridge feels stuck or won't slide out: Make sure the front disc is opened all the way, and that you're pulling from the tab rather than the cartridge body itself.
Where to buy refills: Refill 3-packs are available at orrolight.com and on Amazon.
Hinge & Physical Issues
Front disc feels stiff or won't open smoothly: The hinge is designed to hold at any angle up to 90°. Avoid forcing it open past that point — this can damage the hinge over time.
Device feels warm to the touch: Mild warmth during normal operation is expected — the LEDs generate some heat. If it feels hot, or you notice any burning smell, unplug it immediately and contact us.
Unusual noise: ORRO has no fan and no moving parts, so it should run silently. Any buzzing, clicking, or humming isn't normal — unplug it and contact us.
